SPF

SPF is now on its third straight week of price increases that were initiated by the 10% tariff announced weeks ago.

This week SPF increased by $10/mbf. SPF will likely maintain this $10/mbf increase a week pattern for the coming weeks as we are in peak building season. It is possible that we could begin seeing more than $10/mbf a week increases as supply is expected to get tight as we head into the end of the year with many mills tapering back production.

16’ lengths did take a spike this week (as well as last week) as 2x4x16s have went up $30/mbf in the past two weeks and 2x6x16s up $50/mbf.

All other lengths had anywhere between $5-$10/mbf increases.

SYP

Almost all dimensions in SYP #1 and #2 grades went up around $5/mbf this week. 2x6s did go up $10/mbf.

Although SYP is on its fifth week straight of price increases, we have only seen a total price increase of $24/mbf in these five weeks. We currently see no future signs as to why SYP would rapidly spike, so we suggest continuing to buy what you need and to not be weary of stocking up if needed.

Low grade did increase around $10/mbf this week and is expecting to continue to rise as many users are switching from SPF to SYP due to the price gap between the two.

OSB

Although we did finally see signs of life in the OSB prices last week, mills are still anxious to take offers to keep moving material.

Many mills are preferring to move straight truck loads (of one dimension) which is lending to less deals to be had on mixed trucks.
