SYP

Southern yellow pine eased again this week, but the drop is getting smaller. #1 prices slipped around $5 to $10/mbf on average. Mills say the downward pressure let up as the week went on — accumulations cleared out and quotes firmed back up in late trading.

Looking ahead, the tone is improving. Mills worked through their buildups and found some support from buyers starting to look at fall coverage, with #2 narrows in particular catching late-week premiums. If that holds, we could be looking at prices leveling off rather than sliding further.

Low grade is basically done falling for now — #3 slipped about $5/mbf and #4 came in flat on the week. Studs, on the other hand, got hit hard again, down around $20/mbf — one of the bigger movers we saw all week.

SPF

SPF eased around $10/mbf this week.

Narrow 2x4s led the decline again, down around $10 to $15/mbf, while the wider 2x6s barely budged — off $0 to $5/mbf at most.

There’s a little more optimism creeping in. Lumber futures gained ground for the first time in weeks, and some traders are starting to talk about a bottom forming. We’ll know more once that shows up in cash prices.

OSB

OSB stayed essentially flat again this week — the structural panel composite barely budged, and 7/16-inch prices held right where they were last week.
