July 3, 2025 Lumber News

Many traders experienced a slow week with holidays in both Canada and the US with Canada day being on the 1st and the 4th of July holiday in the United states. This also seemed to bring about mass delays in trucking across the country. We hope that things will be back to normal next week.

SYP

SYP had it’s first week since April with an average price increase. Although prices (when looking at all dimensions in standard grade) only increased by $2, it is a sign that SYP prices as a whole have hit their bottom.

2x6s and 2x8s are increasing more by the week with prices jumping up $10-$15 this week. These are the only two dimensions in SYP that are officially rising in price with now having 3 weeks straight of prices increasing.

2x10s and 12s had what is probably their last week of double digit decreases with both dropping around $10. Buy these while you can if you any needs for the summer!

2x4s hardly moved this week. We are anticipating their prices to pattern the 2x6s and 2x8s but just 4 weeks behind; which means that 2x4s will likely increase around $10 to $15 a week through July.

Low grade material seems to be staying flat at the bottom with prices barely falling below $5 this week.

SPF

SPF is steadily increasing more each week with both 2x4s and 2x6s now on the rise. Both dimensions increased around $15 this week and we don’t see them slowing down any time soon.

Specific lengths like 16’ and 12’ have been particularly hard to find at good deals, especially in 2x4s. The mills will continue to raise prices as demand increases.

Many buyers are looking to stock up on all lengths in SPF and are noticing that mills are more inclined to sale straight trucks or at max 2-3 different tallys on one truck. Although they will price mixed trucks in SPF, they are increasing the price even more for more mixed trucks.

OSB

Deals in OSB are still lingering but are becoming noticeably more difficult to find. We expect to see prices in the green (an increase) in the next week or two which would be the first in a while since OSB prices have had now 18 weeks straight with no price increases.
