SYP

SYP has started 2026 strongly with an average increase last week higher than any week of 2025.

2x4s and 2x6s were again the leaders of the pack with both widths increasing nearly $35/mbf.

2x10s were next in line coming up $20/mbf and 2x8s by $15/mbf.

2x12s barely moved.

Seeing increases like this from the mills shows that we are finally seeing the market in the mills’ favor. This of course was intentionally brought about by the production cuts months ago that now have supplies very tight.

The dilemma this can cause for many buyers is that there is only so long you can wait for prices to begin to work their way down before you have to buy to fill orders. We expect to see lead times from mills being pushed out a few weeks as they take orders that are not prompt and extend their backlogs.

With this being a possibility, we again suggest that you buy what you need to get through winter.

SPF

Both 2x4s and 2x6s rose around $10/mbf this week. 16 footers especially showed price increases with many mills quoting in the $700s/mbf.

It does seem that the SYP market is tailoring the entire lumber market toward a strong up-turn as we kick off the year. Nevertheless, SPF mills will do all they can to get prices back up with spring-builds right around the corner.

OSB

Another week of no price change in OSB. We did get reports of many trucks being sold last week which could lend to some signs of life in OSB prices. We will see if print prices match these reports next week.
