SYP
SYP had another strong week of price increases; but numbers show signs that suggest that increases are likely to slow over the next two to three weeks.
Yellow Pine prices started their trend upwards mid-December and had a larger increase in one week than all of 2025, two weeks ago. Last week, however, prices did not sustain these $30/mbf-plus increases.
2x4s and 2x6s did stay strong as both widths increased around $15/mbf to $20/mbf.
2x8s and 2x10s came up around $10/mbf to $15/mbf.
2x12s remain an anomaly and have left many mills scratching their heads as the demand for 2x12s has been largely absent for reasons unknown.
We anticipate seeing one more week of increases around the $5/mbf to $10/mbf range and the market to level out if not soften a bit in February. We do not think that the mills will allow the market to get too soft, though, as they will likely keep production where it is to keep supplies tight as we head into the busier building months in March and beyond.
Low grade SYP has many buyers anxious as prices are up $100/mbf since September. Prices are almost exactly where they were this time last year.
SPF
Both 2x4s and 2x6s in SPF took on $15/mbf to $20/mbf increases this week. Although the increases have not been as drastic as they were in SYP, SPF is on a four-week increase. With a steadier rise like this, it is possible that SPF will be able to sustain a steady rise at least through the end of the month.
OSB
Although prices did not change in OSB, there was much talk and a push in the OSB market of many loads being sold this week around the country. This will likely be reflected in the next print prices that come out at the end of this week which we will report in next week’s news.
