SYP

#1 grade did take a $5/mbf increase during Thanksgiving week which was likely due to a small influx in orders before the holiday. It was quickly offset this week though as prices came right back to where they were three weeks ago.

Pricing for #2 is very steady right now. We have not seen an average increase over $6/mbf in fourteen weeks straight. The past month has only seen a total price change of $4/mbf.

We do want to remind buyers that although we are not seeing deep cuts in pricing and haven’t for quite some time, this is largely due to SYP already hovering at the bottom as it is highly unlikely that prices could drop much more than they did in September. So, it is still a very good time to keep your stock levels high in SYP.

Prices in low grade (#3 and #4 material) are staying very tight as we have not seen a decrease in nearly twelve weeks. Prices are still good and pricing will likely remain persistent through the winter.

SPF

SPF is now on its sixth straight week of decreases.

As we have been speculating in the weeks prior, 2x4s seemed to be over priced, and that proved to be the case as 2x4s have dropped nearly $50/mbf in the past six weeks. We do recommend anyone interested in buying SPF to do so this month. Mills are anxious to move volume; so the larger the quote volume the better pricing you are likely to see.

2x6s have also fallen in the past six weeks but only around $25/mbf total. This was to be expected as 2x6s have been able to remain more stable through fall now.

OSB

No new news to mention in OSB. As has been the story since summer: stock up while prices are at the bottom. There is talk of mills pulling back production heavily which could finally bring supply tight and drive up prices. We will keep a close eye on this.
