SYP
As expected, we saw yet another increase in SYP this week. With many mills intentionally cutting back production, which took place a month or more ago; we are finally seeing the repercussions of this as supply is tightening across the country and prices are coming up. This, paired with short work weeks from the holidays will likely create two to three more weeks of SYP increases. So if you have immediate needs, we suggest filling those needs but not much more for the rest of the winter.
2x4s and 2x6s have increased the most in the past two weeks with both dimensions now increasing nearly $40/mbf in two weeks.
2x10s are next in line increasing around $15/mbf while 2x8s came up $10/mbf.
So far, 2x12s are going to the beat of their own drum as #2s have not increased at all the past two weeks. This is likely due to 2x12s having either more supply that was already at the mills, or less demand during these winter months.
SPF
SPF took on its first increase in nearly two months as it increased $10/mbf two weeks ago. Last week it only increased around $5/mbf.
We expect another week of $10/mbf or more increases this week and suggest that moderately stocking up may be in your best interest.
OSB
Another week of no price change in OSB. At some point, we will see the supply tighten and prices begin to move up; but until then, it is a great time to buy all of the OSB you can handle.
