Yet another week of double digit decreases in dimensional lumber!
SYP
2x4s again took the largest decrease this week falling $20 mbf while 2x6s also fell $20 this week.
2x8s and 2x10s all fell around $10 to $15mbf.
2x12s only fell around $10 on average.
A quick zoom out of SYP this summer: SYP standard grade fell around $100 through May and June. It then increased $15 through July but quickly started decreasing again in August now falling $35 through the month. So since May, SYP has fallen nearly $120 mbf.
#3 and #4 grade dropped $5 to $10 with certain lengths like 14’ becoming hard to find this week. Mills are very anxious to take volume offers to move material.
SPF
SPF took its largest one-week decrease of the year across nearly all dimensions. This is especially true for studs as they decreased nearly $35 on average this week.
2x4s fell around $25
2x6s came down $20
With double digit cuts like this, mills are obviously anxious to move material. Again, there is some optimism that the market will pick back up after labor day, but we will have to wait to see.
It is high time to begin thinking of what you would want to stock up on as next week may be the week to buy.
OSB
OSB is still hovering at the bottom with no signs of increasing. We suggest buying what you need and more.
