SYP

SYP took another week of double digit decreases.

Most dimensions were taking on increases during all of July, however 2x10s and 2x12s only saw $5 to $10 increases during that time which puts these two dimensions at the top of our “buy now” list. Although all dimensions will likely keep decreasing in price at least the next two weeks, it is a great time to buy SYP overall as mills are looking to move material.

2x4s took the largest decrease this week falling $20 mbf.

2x6s, 8x, and 10s all fell around $10 to $15mbf.

With 2x4s taking such a large decrease, it is possible that prices will go down quick and come up quickly after labor day.

Low grade material stayed nearly unchanged.

SPF

2x4s in SPF also took a $20 decrease this week with 2x4x16s taking a $30 decrease.

2x6s came down $15.

With double digit cuts like this, mills are obviously anxious to move material. Again, there is some optimism that the market will pick back up after labor day, but we will have to wait to see.

Last week we suggested only buying what you needed in SPF while prices fell. We are still suggesting that this week as well, but we would also suggest to begin thinking of what you would want to stock up on as next week may be the week to buy.

Studs also took a large decrease with 2×4 precuts falling $35 and 2x6s falling -$15.

OSB

OSB is still hovering at the bottom with no signs of increasing. We suggest buying what you need and more.
