SYP
The winter storms across the east and south left many mills sitting idle the first part of last week.
As expected, we are seeing a tapering down of increases in SYP.
2x10s are still holding very strong though, increasing around $15/mbf. 2x4s are hanging right behind them, increasing $10/mbf.
2x6s and 2x8s hardly moved with some widths increasing only $5/mbf.
2x12s had another week of no movement.
February will likely bring a slow down in the market which will weaken demand. Prices will hopefully taper down through the month but we expect a strong surge in March like we have experienced this January; due to the expectation that many mills will not bring back full production crews and will force supplies to be tight and prices to continue to rise in Spring.
If this is the case, the end of February would be our recommended time to stock up in SYP for the Spring.
SPF
SPF is following a similar trajectory to SYP this year as price increases are seeming to taper off. 2x4s actually did not increase this week and 2x6s only increased around $5 to $10/mbf.
Studs also hardly moved.
We expect the same in SPF in that the month of February will bring a softening in prices and more increases to come in March.
OSB
Talk of supplies tightening across the US were certain last week, however, prices remained steady as no notable increases were seen yet.
