SYP
Prices in SYP had another week of increases across the board, but are showing signs of slowing down as average increases were around $10/mbf this week (compared to $20/mbf to $30/mbf increases the past two weeks).
2x10s held the strongest as they increased another $15/mbf. 2x4s also increased an average of $15/mbf but 2x4x16s increased $20/mbf.
2x6s and 2x8s only increased around $5/mbf.
2x12s yet again are going to the beat of their own drum as they remained steady.
The winter storms hitting the South and Midwest this weekend will likely aid in giving SYP at least one more week of small increases before we see our first week of decreases this year. There will likely be a backlog of trucking with terrible road conditions keeping some buyers in panic mode to keep their stock up through next week.
SPF
SPF has had a very steady three weeks of increases. Prices rose around $15/mbf for both 2x4s and 2x6s.
Many traders are speculating that the only reason prices are going up and supplies are seemingly tight in SPF is due to the mill not veering from their decision to curtail production in the 4th quarter of 2025. In fact, Domtar (a major SPF mill) formally announced that they planned to keep production reduced through the first quarter of 2026 as well.
OSB
Talk of supplies tightening across the US were certain last week, however, prices remained steady as no notable increases were seen yet.
