SYP
We saw hardly any movement in SYP this week.
It is speculated that the only reason that we didn’t see even more of a decrease is due to prices already being as low as they are. Mills seemed to try to hold firm on most prices this week but many loads just did not sell.
It is likely that Thanksgiving week will also lead to another slow week in demand.
Low grade SYP continues to stay firm as well.
SPF
SPF on the other hand took on double digit decreases in both 2x4s and 2×6.
2x4s, especially in longer lengths decreased up to $20/mbf.
2x6s dropped around $10/mbf.
SPF has now dropped for four weeks in a row. It is hard to predict what the rest of the year will look like in SPF given the unusual year the Canadian lumber market has had. It is possible that we could see another week of decreases; however, it is a great time to buy SPF, especially 2x4s.
OSB
The same old story yet again in OSB as there is no price movement to be mentioned. Perhaps the holiday week will bring some life to OSB sales. Only time will tell.
We will not be bringing any news next week with the Thanksgiving holiday.
We hope that your families have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday.
