SYP

The same story continues in the yellow pine market this week with nearly every dimension increasing just $5/mbf. This is now the seventh straight week of increases for yellow pine, with no dimensions being over a $6/mbf average each week.

SYP is down $30/mbf since June which comes to around $750 less a truck load. Many were expecting the SPF increases earlier this month to give a greater jump start to SYP than it brought. This is likely due to many buyers being stocked up as we anticipated a few weeks back; which lends to a lack in direct demand for current needs/offers to the mills.

It is likely that SYP will continue to very slowly rise if not level out. We do not expect any drastic changes in pricing for the next few weeks.

SPF

SPF took on its first and only decrease this month with 2x4s falling around $10/mbf and 2x6s around $5/mbf.

The extra 10% tariffs at the beginning of October increased SPF around $30/mbf this month. Even with many mills lowering their production for the end of the year, there still seems to be adequate supply which is lending to prices not rising quickly. SPF is up only $20/mbf since June (around $550 a truck more). Many mills would like for this number to be much larger to compensate for the tariffs imposed on their goods coming into the US but the demand has not sustained their ability to get what they need or want.

2×4 and 2×6 studs followed suit respectively with 2x4s falling $10/mbf and 2x6s $5/mbf.

OSB

Many thought that OSB was on the up and up, signaled by a mere $5 increase at the beginning of October. Instead, it was another week with no price changes for the past two weeks. Mills still seem very anxious to move material and are very open to offers. All in all, we are seeing prices just the same as they were two months ago.
