SPF

This week the market seemed to be on standby as both buyers and sellers are anticipating that the new tariffs for Canadian lumber will be initiated next week. Many are speculating that there will be an announcement on Monday the 28^th.

The new tariffs is for the new rate on anti-dumping duties for Lumber being imported in to the United States from Canada. As of right now that tariff is around 14%; many are saying that the new rate will be announced at around 34%. If this is the case, we expect prices on SPF to go up $50 to $100 a thousand board foot overnight. Sellers are hoping that the new rate will be announced but to not formally go into effect until a week or two after; but no one truly knows the timing here.

2x6s and studs had another mild week with hardly no movement while 2x4s increased only $5. Again, this is likely for the weakened demand from buyers being cautious because even if Canadian lumber were bought this week, if it does not make it across the border before the formal tariffs are initiated, it would then increase in price.

SYP

SYP also followed mild trend this week with no double digit increases on any widths or lengths.

2x10s and 12s had no increase at all.

2x4s, 6s, and 8s (in all lengths) increased $5

Low grade material took yet another week of decreases, this week only dropping around $3.  Prices decreases seem that they are tapering off and will likely hold steady now through August. Great deals are very easy to find… especially when buying volume truck loads.

OSB

OSB has now had 6 straight weeks where prices have not changed any. Deals are easy to be hand on any types of trucks from mixed thicknesses and in A and B grades. There is much speculation as to when OSB prices will finally start their way back up but as of now deals are still to be found and sellers are anxious to move trucks.
