Although printed prices are still showing that OSB went down last week, we are seeing prices remaining very flat and unchanged on most quotes from the week before. Eventually, these great deals in OSB will be depleted and prices will start to rise again. We expect the prices to begin increasing in the next few weeks.
SPF has now had 12 weeks without an increase, but the last three weeks have been less than $5 decrease each week. It is hard to know how long SPF will stay in this valley as prices are still seemingly flat at the end of this week. Nevertheless, it is the time to stock up on all SPF items as prices are clearly showing they is no more room to move down.
Studs also had another flat week with nearly all prices unchanged except on 2x4x104 5/8 studs increasing only $5. If you need studs, buy them now.
Southern Yellow Pine has now had 3 consecutive weeks with double-digit drops. This week, in #1 and #2 grade, the price dropped around $15.
If you have been listening to our news over the past few weeks you know that we have kept 2x6s as the best deals in SYP. This remains the same this week, but we believe the 2x6s will hit their floor before any other, and that could be over the coming week. With that being said, we suggest stocking up as much as possible in the 2x6s.
2x8s are the next best deal in SYP. We are seeing many great deals being published with mills trying to move inventory.
The rest, 2x4s, 10s, and 12s, still may have a few weeks yet before they hit their floor. For our own yard, we are still buying enough to get by in these dimensions and plan on stocking up within the next month. We look for prices to begin slowly rising on these dimensions toward mid to late June.
Low Grade SYP
It appears that price decreases for #3 and #4 SYP might have only been for the month of May. This week, prices only fell $8 which may be showing that decreases are coming to an end and prices will level out. We suggest buying what you need in low grade material.
