SYP
Nearly all dimensions and grades of SYP had the second consecutive week of double digit increases.
2x4s jumped $25/mbf.
2x8s came up $20/mbf.
2×6, 10, and 12s all increased around $15/mbf.
We once again want to say that demand is not the only thing increasing prices as gas prices also spiked this week due to international conflicts. One broker referred to trucking currently being a “nightmare” right now with the spike in sales and low truck availability. With transportation costs having major spikes in the past two weeks, this is lending to load delays across the country.
We doubt that prices will come down any time soon. The main concern that we have for many in weeks to come will be lack of supply at the mills for prompt shipments which could potentially lead to delays in lumber availability. Even though prices have increased around $30/mbf total the past two weeks (on average), it is still a good time to buy as price decreases will likely not be happening for many weeks.
Low grades also took on yet another $10/mbf increase this week which now has #3 prices up $110/mbf since last November.
SPF
Although price increases were not as substantial in SPF, there are signs of life in the SPF market with an average $8/mbf increase this week. SPF prices had been on a five week near stand still.
Stud prices jumped up $10/mbf.
2x4s and 2x6s increased anywhere between $5 and $10/mbf.
We look for similar if not higher increases next week in SPF.
OSB
Another slow week in OSB as prices remained unchanged. Mill out put is continuing to keep up with demand which is not allowing mills to raise prices so that they can keep material moving.
