OSB
It seems that the mills have yet to run out of bottom dollar deals in OSB as great prices were easily found all week. For example: on average we are seeing 7/16” A grade material selling for $10-$11 across the North East and Mid West.
Many buyers who normally buy B/ or shop grade OSB are opting for A grade material as prices gaps between the grades are minimal.
SPF
2x4s increased $5 while 2x6s decreased $5.
Overall, prices seemed to stay relatively close to the week before in SPF.
Good deals on 2x4s became noticeably harder to find this week while 2x6s continue to sell at great prices. With this now being the 3rd week in a row that 2x4s increased $5 each week, we believe prices will begin increasing even more each week in the coming weeks.
Stud prices have hardly moved in the past month.
SYP
If you need 2x6s, buy them now as they showed no movement this week after having 5 weeks straight of double-digit decreases. This is a clear indication that 2x6s in particular have hit their bottom. 2x8s did show another $10 decrease this week except on 16’ material as it stayed the same, which again is another indication that 2x8s have likely hit their floor as well.
2x4s and 2x10s continue to follow the same trend as both dimensions fell around $20 this week. It is possible that there be 1 to 2 more weeks of decreases for these dimensions, but even if this is true, it is a great time to buy any dimension in SYP.
2x12s are remaining the most stubborn of the group but this week 16-20 foot fell $20 while shorter lengths only fell $5.
From the pattern we have been seeing, this is a summary of what we are anticipating:
2x6s and 2x8s prices hit the bottom this week! 2x4s and 2x10s bottom is likely to come in 2 weeks. 2x12s bottom prices are likely to be found in 3-4 weeks.
Low Grade SYP
Deals in #3 and #4 were still easily found as prices dropped around $5 this week in all dimensions. We do expect pricing to begin to tighten up either next week or maybe 2 so stocking up in low grade SYP is a great idea at this time!!
