SYP
SYP kept climbing for a seventh straight week, though the holiday-shortened week slowed the pace a bit from last week’s run. Increases were more spotty this time, landing mostly in the $10 to $15/mbf range.
2x10s led the way again coming up around $20 to $25/mbf. 2x4s, 2x6s and 2x12s came up around $10 to $15, while 2x8s were the most mixed, ranging anywhere from unchanged to $15/mbf.
That makes seven weeks of increases in a row on southern pine. Demand is holding through the summer, but with the pace easing this week it is worth watching whether the long run-up starts to level off.
Low grade SYP inched up again by a few dollars. It is still lagging well behind the rest of the market after sitting mostly flat for weeks.
SPF
SPF cooled off some this week after last week’s big jump, coming up around $10 to $15 on average. 2x6s again led the charge with some lengths up $20 to $30, while 2x4s were soft, ranging from unchanged to $10.
Even with the slower week, SPF has now posted double-digit gains for over a month. As long as demand holds, expect prices to stay on the climb.
OSB
OSB mill prices still did not move, holding at the bottom just like they have for months. Keep in mind these are mill prices only — while the print has stayed flat, the delivered cost has still crept higher right along with freight and fuel.
