SYP
SYP edged higher for an eighth straight week, but the pace slowed to its most modest gain of the whole run. Increases were steady and even this time, landing right around $10 on nearly every dimension.
2x10s and 2x12s stayed just ahead in the $10 to $15 range, while 2x4s, 2x6s and 2x8s came in right around $10. Low grade barely moved again, up just a couple dollars.
After eight weeks up, the market is showing its first real signs of cooling. This week’s print noted that upward momentum stalled some and that a few discounts started to surface, with some traders feeling prices are nearing a top. It is still a rising market, but the run may be losing steam, so it is a good stretch to get ahead of your needs while prices are steady.
SPF
SPF cooled off as well, coming up around $5 to $15 after several strong weeks. 2x6s again led at $10 to $15 while 2x4s were the laggard around $5.
The big double-digit run on SPF looks to be winding down to smaller gains. Demand is still there, but like southern pine the pace is easing.
OSB
OSB mill prices did not move again, staying parked at the bottom like they have for months. As a reminder, these are mill prices only — the delivered cost still rides up and down with freight and fuel even when the print holds flat.
