SYP

The first average decrease in 7 weeks finally came this week in SYP.

2×6 and 2x8s came down $10/mbf.

2x4s did not move as well as 2x10s.

A few widths in 2x12s actually took on a $5/mbf increase.

It was a slow week for many sellers as buyers sat on the sidelines knowing that prices will be dropping in the coming weeks.

If you have the inventory to do so, we would suggest waiting just 2 to 3 more weeks to let the prices come down even more in yellow pine. However, mills are open to taking counter offers right now to get loads locked in and inventory moving.

Low grade is remaining very tight as we have not seen a week with a price decrease in 16 weeks. In that span, #4 prices have increased $75/mbf.

SPF

SPF prices did not change at all. Studs remained steady as well.

It is likely that prices will also slowly fall in SPF through February and then pick back up with Spring demand come March.

OSB

Still no price increases in OSB. Mills are still eager to move volume as offers are still being taken at bottom dollar prices.
