Welcome to Lumber News. This is February 23, 2026, and we will begin this edition of Lumber News with Southern Yellow Pine.
SYP
SYP had another week of decreases this week with almost all widths and lengths taking price cuts.
It was a mild and pleasant week of weather in most of the Eastern and Central US last week, but is short lived as we are seeing another cold wave coming this week. This will likely keep demand low and prices falling for at least 1 to 2 more weeks.
SYP came down around $15/mbf the past three weeks, but some widths like 2x6s came down around $40/mbf to $50/mbf as well as 2x4s dropping around $30/mbf to $40/mbf the past 3 weeks.
2x6s came down $15/mbf, 2x4s and 2x8s down around $10/mbf and 2x10s and 2x12s around $5/mbf.
Low grade had its first average decrease since October. In that time, we have seen $80/mbf to $100/mbf increases in #3 and #4 grades. Hopefully we will see deeper price cuts in the weeks to come as many buyers have been buying minimal volume with prices being up so high in low grade.
SPF
SPF has now had 3 weeks of nearly no price changes. SPF is up around $50/mbf since December, but it is hard to tell at this point if we will see much if any softening in prices before the heavy building season comes in March.
We are seeing mills being more open to offers, especially when buying volume and low mix trucks of only 1 to 3 different sizes as mills are anxious to move material.
OSB
OSB had another week of no movement. We did want to leave the update that we gave last week on in case you missed it:
OSB hit a 5 year low back in September and has not wavered much at all from these rock bottom prices. It is clear that mills are selling it as low as they can; the question though, is when will prices begin to go up? Buying when prices are at their bottom is the name of the game in lumber buying and selling; and having a clear view of where the bottom actually is, doesn’t happen often. If you are interested in knowing where prices are for truckloads of OSB to your area, we would be happy to assist you in this!
