SYP
As expected, Southern pine kept sliding this week.
#1 2x4s, 6s, and 8s all fell around $20/mbf while 2x10s and 12s only came down around $10/mbf.
#2 is still leading the way down. Narrow widths took the worst of it again, with some lengths of 2×6
falling by as much as $30/mbf.
Low grade demand has faded from where it was earlier in the year and prices were flat to a touch lower.
SPF
SPF is still the one holdout, inching higher again while everything else fades. Persistently tight supply out
of Canada, thin European spruce, and long order files keep just enough pressure on SPF to hold prices
up.
Studs went mixed this week as the recent upward momentum ran out of steam. Western SPF studs were
about flat, with some short trims discounted and a few 2×6 items still firm.
OSB
OSB mill prices were basically flat once more. The North Central nudged up a token $5 on tight supply
while the rest of the country held steady in a quiet, slow market. As always, these are mill prices — what
actually lands at the yard still moves with freight and fuel more than the panel itself.
