April 27, Lumber News

SYP

2x4s and 2x6s were the leaders of the pack in decreases this week as they both fell around $25/mbf on average. 2x8s dropped around $20/mbf, 2x10s by $10/mbf, and 2x12s by $5/mbf.

Although mill prices did reflect deep decreases in price, many quotes to customers seemed nearly unchanged as the trucking crisis inflated many quotes. We expect in the week ahead to really see prices begin reflecting these decreases.

We still suggest waiting to buy any trucks over what your immediate needs are. The only worry that still remains on the table in waiting for prices to drop even more is longer lead times in shipments.

Low grade lumber also took its first decrease in 7 weeks dropping around $5/mbf.

SPF

SPF continues to remain steady and prices have hardly moved the past month. It is hard to see any signs that there will be drastic changes in the near future. It is likely that prices will very slowly taper down as SYP begins its descent.

OSB

Prices still have not gone up in OSB. Many mills seem to be grasping at straws in seemingly higher quotes with no orders to follow as buyers still have leftover stock from the winter drop.
