SYP
2x4s were the only width that held strong last week as they increased nearly $20mbf in both #1 and #2.
2x6s had little to no gains.
The wider widths (2x8s, 10s, and 12s) continue to stay soft; especially in #2 grade. Wide widths have had nearly 8 weeks straight with virtually no price gains with 2x12x20 being the only outlier. We expect prices to eventually start increasing here, but with the hot, humid weather still slowing job sites, the demand just isn’t there to spawn a trajectory switch.
Low grade (#3/#4) was quiet again this week, basically flat across the board.
SPF
Spruce-Pine-Fir had a subdued week following the long holiday weekend, with buyers lacking urgency and mostly covering near-term needs.
SPF spent May through July increasing around $100 total; since July, prices have now come back down around $35 total.
The past three weeks have shown less than $5 decreases. We expect this to be maintained until true Autumn weather begins.
Stud lumber was little changed, trading in a narrow band right around last week’s levels across grades and widths.
OSB
OSB tightened up this week. Mill maintenance shutdowns and thin inventories in the northern producing regions pushed prices higher — 7/16” gained $10.
