SYP
We are finally suggesting to buy 2x10s and 2x12s this week as both took a $10-$15 decrease this week and we expect that prices for these two dimensions will be at their bottom all of next week and then begin to follow 2x6s on their way up.
2x4s also had another week of a $10 decrease. These are also on our suggested buy list.
2x6s and 2x8s are now 2 weeks straight of increasing with 2x6s coming up $10 this week and 2x8s only $5. Although prices aren’t necessarily expensive, if you need these dimensions, buying in the next week is a good idea as prices are likely to continue to climb all of summer.
Prices for low grade material continue to sell at great deals. They are now on 9 straight weeks of decreases. If you buy low grade SYP, now is the time to stock up.
SPF
SPF has officially started its climb upward with 2x4s now on their 5th week of increases and 2x6s on their 2nd straight week of increases. There seems to be a tighter supply of 2x4s (especially in 16 foot) by the day as we are seeing prices change rapidly. 2×4 studs are also on the rise.
SPF prices may have a very interesting summer as anti-dumping duties are to be imposed in the fall. With these tariffs on the horizon, it is possible that SPF keeps rising steadily through the summer.
OSB
Many mills believe that most buyers stocked up on OSB pre-Spring which has now led to a very weak demand in OSB for the past two months. This has led to a very prolonged period of OSB being at such low prices.
We have be seeing the same prices for about a month now. Even better prices can be found when buying multiple trucks at a time where mills an anxious to get rid of excess inventory.
As prices are this low on A grade material, we are suggesting many of our buyers that normally buy B or shop grade OSB to buy the A grade as prices are hardly different between the two.
If you have any extra space for excess inventory, we suggest filling it with OSB (instead of SPF and SYP) as prices are most likely as low as they will be for a very long time.
